We did it again.
For the second time in three years, Aplyca has captured the eZ Systems Site of the Month.
The October award recognizes Aplyca’s work for the Tico Times, Central America’s largest English-language newspaper.
Aplyca, Latin America’s leading provider of web publishing technologies for media and industry, created a pioneering “freemium” system, in which visitors to the Tico Times site can read some material for free but pay for premium articles and products.
By creating a subscription and paid content extension, Aplyca help the Times enhance revenue by allowing readers to purchase credits using a credit card and spend the credits to access the premium content. The new site also features an easy-to-use classified section, based on the light version of the eZ Publish classified solution developed by Aplyca.
The Times started seeing results immediately upon the new site’s early November launch.
In addition to an avalanche of positive user feedback, average visits increased 400 percent, pages per visit doubled and the site climbed more than 50,000 positions in the Alexa worldwide ranking.
Here’s what we created:
- Subscription and paid content extension
- Micro-payment system for Tico Credits
- Content management system that supports a complete editorial process
- Full e-commerce functionality
- Integrated classified advertising
- High-traffic capability
- Audio, video and social media interactivity
Aplyca won the eZ Systems Site of the Month award in September 2007 for the La Prensa website and also was nominated for ez Systems Project of the Year.
